The device has a handling point (2.1), a feeding belt (2.2), a security testing station (2.3), a sorting device (2.4) e.g. deflector, separate conveyor belts (2.5-2.8) and an issuing point (2.9) that are coupled with each other variably in a separate handling module (1). The separate conveyor belts are provided at the handling point, the feeding belt, the security testing station and the sorting device. The handling module is separated spatially from the surrounding by a casing (6) e.g. tarpaulin. An independent claim is also included for a method for handling the luggage.
