SYNTHETIC PRINT IMAGE AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect an edge in a synthetic compensation pattern at high precision while shortening time required for compensation processing.

SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus forming printed images for each color according to image information and forming a multi-color printed image on an intermediate transfer belt by superposing the printed images for each color is provided with; an image forming unit 10 forming the synthetic compensation patterns P(Y), P(M), P(C) and P(K) provided with color smearing compensation patterns and image density compensation patterns on the intermediate transfer belt, an image detection sensor 12 detecting a synthetic compensation pattern formed on the intermediate transfer belt by the image forming unit 10 and a control part 15 carrying out color smearing compensation by extracting color smearing compensation pattern and carrying out image density compensation by extracting image density compensation pattern from the synthetic compensation patterns detected by the image detecting sensor 12.
