PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus for executing bracket photographing with high accuracy of an exposure correction value, and less deterioration in the image quality due to excessive correction at a dark place in a short imaging processing time. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: a solid-state imaging element 2 for imaging an object; an analog signal processing means 3 for varying an output level of an image signal; a digital signal processing means 5 for digitizing the image signal; a characteristic image detection determination means 14 for detecting a prescribed characteristic image from the digitized image signal; an exposure correction value detection means 15 for generating a characteristic image exposure correction value in a prescribed characteristic image region on the basis of the image signal and the characteristic image detection determination signal; and an exposure control means 10 for outputting an exposure control signal for controlling the exposure at photographing on the basis of a first exposure control variable for first photographing in ordinary photographing or the bracket photographing and a second exposure control variable for second and subsequent photographing processes.
