PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and its manufacturing method having a panel structure which improves a passivation property to an external environment without causing a crack and delamination on an upper electrode of an organic EL element arranged on a display panel. SOLUTION: A counter electrode 17 formed on an organic EL layer 16 has an electrode structure formed by forming a metal thin film as an electron injection layer, and sequentially laminating a second conductive layer (an oxide deficient layer) 105b formed of ITO or the like in an oxide deficient state, and a first conductive layer (a stress relaxation layer) 105a formed of ITO or the like with an increased oxide pressure formed on an upper layer of the electron injection layer. The counter electrode is formed as a single conductive layer extending to banks BKx and BKy for defining respective pixel forming regions Rpx not only a region opposite to a pixel electrode 15 of the respective display pixels PIX, and is joined so as to be electrically connected to a conductive bank part 18d for forming the bank BKx.
