PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely judge a travel direction intended by a driver to surely prevent erroneous start of a vehicle with an erroneous start prevention device for the vehicle by which the travel direction intended by the driver is discriminated based on images picked up by imaging apparatuses and start of the vehicle is permitted or prevented by coincidence/noncoincidence between the discriminated travel direction and a gear switching position. SOLUTION: The erroneous start preventing device for vehicle has a first imaging camera 11 installed at a front position where look should be turned when the driver D starts the vehicle 2 in the forward direction and second to fifth imaging cameras 12-15 installed at four parts, a rear window, a room mirror and right and left rear-view mirrors with high probability of turning the look when the vehicle is started in the backward direction as the imaging apparatuses. The images picked up by the respective imaging cameras 11-15 are fetched in a start controller and analysis processing is performed, when the look of the driver D turns to the respective imaging cameras, start of the vehicle in the forward or backward direction is permitted and when the look is not turned to any imaging camera, the start is prevented.
