PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation device for a vehicle capable of easily generating new map data that have been unregistered in a storage means. SOLUTION: When the vehicle passes an entrance ETC gate of a highway, an ETC on-vehicle instrument 4 receives entrance gate passing information from an on-road unit installed on the entrance ETC gate and outputs it to the navigation device 1. When entrance gate passing information is received from the ETC on-vehicle instrument (S1:"YES"), when a highway corresponding to the entrance gate passing information does not exist as map data (S2:NO), the navigation device 1 stores the present position as positional information (S3). When the ETC on-vehicle instrument 4 receives exit gate passing information (S4:"YES"), the navigation device 1 finishes storing the positional information (S5), updates the map data (S6), and stores the tollgate and toll information (S7).
