PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyesterimide having high glass transition temperature, low linear thermal expansion (coefficient), low water absorption coefficient, low hygroscopic expansion coefficient, high modulus of elasticity and sufficient toughness in combination and to provide a method for producing the polyesterimide. SOLUTION: The polyesterimide has a repeating unit represented by general formula (2) (wherein, A represents a tetravalent aromatic group or alicyclic group; Rs represent each a 1-6C linear or branched alkyl group or alkoxy group and Rs may each be same or different).
