PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve utilization of a device by saving time and labor of a clerk to cope with a case in which a paper sheet is rejected in payment of a check. SOLUTION: A paper sheet handling device comprises: a depositing or dispensing opening to be used for receiving or dispensing paper sheets; a storage for storing paper sheets received or to be dispensed; a conveying path for connecting the depositing or dispensing opening and the storage and for conveying the paper sheets; a discrimination part arranged in the conveying path for discriminating the types and the authenticity of the paper sheets; a notification means for notifying the clerk, and a control parts for controlling respective parts. The control part controls the (rejected) paper sheets, which have been fed out from the storage and have not been discriminated to be true by the decision of the discrimination part so that they are conveyed to the depositing or dispensing opening via the conveying path, and notifies the clerk of the occurrence of the reject in the dispensing of the paper sheets with a notification means.
