PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an on-vehicle content reproducing device and a program update system therewith that are capable of easily and reliably updating a control program for controlling a portable content reproducing device, and of reliably reproducing content held in the portable content reproducing device. SOLUTION: A control program update means 10 is provided for updating a control program by causing a control program holding means 11 to newly hold a control program sent from a server 8 and corresponding to the portable content reproducing device 7, in response to the transmission to the server 8 of the identification information of the portable content reproducing device 7 connected.
