PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To limit inert gas use quantity and secure sufficient explosion proof property without causing cost increase in a method and a device proofing against explosion by inert gas when heating history is applied to combustible gas generating material. SOLUTION: In an explosion proof method, nitrogen gas flow in quantity is controlled to keep oxygen concentration in a tank to oxygen control concentration or less in an early stage of heating of the material (canister) (yes in S106 and no in S108). This process does not require to make a great quantity of nitrogen gas quickly flow into the tank since this process is oxygen concentration control. Once, HC gas concentration enter a combustible gas low concentration region (yes in S108), process is changed over and nitrogen gas flow rate is controlled to keep a relation of (HC gas concentration)≤(combustible gas control concentration Lcon) (S110). Since HC gas concentration at this time is low, sufficient explosion proof can be sufficiently provided even with a structure which can not make great quantity of nitrogen gas flow in the tank quickly, use quantity of nitrogen gas can be limited. Consequently, it becomes not necessary to make great quantity of nitrogen gas quickly flow in the tank. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
