A petroleum naphtha reformate is upgraded by treatment under catalytic cracking conditions with a crystalline zeolite having a uniform pore structure permitting entry of normal paraffins but excluding hydrocarbons having a larger minimum dimension whereby normal paraffins are selectively cracked to an olefinic gas and a liquid product having an increased iso to normal hydrocarbon ratio. In one embodiment a C5-C7 fraction of a catalytic reformate is treated and the liquid product is blended with the untreated reformate. The gaseous product may be used to form alkylate gasoline by reacting under alkylation conditions with either isobutane previously separated from the reformate or the whole of the untreated reformate. Suitable cracking conditions using a 5 molecular sieve as catalyst are 700 DEG -1,200 DEG F., subatmospheric to several hundred atmospheres pressure and a LHSV of 0,2-4.
