<p>An apparatus for separating light and heavy fractions of building rubble, said apparatus comprising a first conveying means (4) for conveying material from an inlet region to a separating region, a second conveying means (10) for conveying a heavy portion of the material from the separating region to a first outlet region, an outlet end of said first conveying means being vertically spaced above an inlet end of the second conveying means whereby, in use, the material conveyed on the first conveying means falls from the outlet end of the first conveying means onto the second conveying means through said separating region, the apparatus further comprising means for passing a stream of air through said separating region, said air stream passing through the separating region in a direction substantially opposite to the normal direction of travel of the second conveying means, whereby said air stream removes a light portion of the material as the material falls from said first conveying means onto said second conveying means, said air stream subsequently conveying said second portion of material to a second outlet region.</p> |
