A pharmaceutical composition is provided to be effective for treating diabetes not virtually causing adverse reactions even on long-term administration by using an insulin sensitivity enhancer, which has different functional mechanism from the conventional enhancer, in combination with other antidiabetics. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating diabetes comprises pioglitazone or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof and sulfonyl urea selected from the group consisting of glibenclamide, gliclazide, glipizide, and glimepiride, wherein the pioglitazone or the pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof is the pioglitazone or a hydrochloride thereof.
