The invention relates to a method for operating a gas turbine (1) which e specially feeds power to a locally isolated power supply network. Said gas t urbine comprises a compressor (11) for compressing combustion air taken in f rom the surroundings, a combustion chamber (15) for combusting supplied fuel by means of the compressed combustion air, a turbine (12) driven by the hot gases stemming from the combustion chamber (15) and a generator (13), drive n by the turbine (12), for producing electric power. The aim of the inventio n is to improve the control of the aforementioned method. For this purpose, one or more parameters of a set of parameters of the gas turbine (10) is mea sured or determined, the effective thermal output power (PGT) of the gas tur bine (10) being calculated based on the measured or determined parameters, a nd the calculated effective thermal output power (PGT) being used for contro lling the gas turbine (10).
