摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute good compression self ignition operation in accordance with an ignitibility of fuel. SOLUTION: A multiple-fuel internal combustion engine is provided with a compression ratio variable means 81 for varying an actual compression ratio to an arbitrary compression ratio, a fuel characteristic detection means (an electronic control unit 1) for detecting the quality of the ignitibility of fuel, in a combustion chamber CC, which is composed of at least two types of fuels F1, F2 with different properties, and a compression ratio control means (an electronic control unit 1) for controlling the compression ratio variable means 81 so as to increase the actual compression ratio when the ignitibility of fuel in the combustion chamber CC is worse than a prescribed ignitibility and to decrease the actual compression ratio when the ignitibility of fuel in the combustion chamber CC is better than a prescribed ignitibility in the compression self ignition operation.
