PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk drive which can make stabilized recording and reproducing with a rewritable optical disk avoiding a "DOW-once" problem, and also provide its recording method. SOLUTION: This is an optical disk drive 10 which can write data on a phase change type optical disk. It has a controller 25 to initialize the area to write data on an optical disk by making once or twice the AC writing alternately repeating the minimum recording marks and the minimum spaces. The controller 25 checks the state of the data written on the optical disk D by reading the data in the administration area of the disk D when the drive is loaded with the optical disk D.
