PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheel bearing apparatus with a wheel speed detector which inhibits a pilot cylinder from being expanded when a protective case is press-fitted into an inner circumference of the pilot cylinder. SOLUTION: An internal member 5 is assembled on the inner side of the outer wheel 1, and rotatably supported by a plurality of rollers 10. A sensor rotor 11 is attached to an end on the inner side of the internal member 5. A rotation sensor 13 faces the sensor rotor 11 in the axial direction, and is supported by a protective cover 12 attached to an end on the inner side of the outer wheel 1. A plurality of slits 15 are formed at an end of an opening of a cylinder 12b formed on an outer circumference of the protective cover 12, extend from the end of the opening in the axial direction, and are circumferentially spaced at an interval. When the protective cover 12 for press-fitting the end of the opening of the cylinder 12b to an inside diameter face of the pilot cylinder 2 is attached, the pilot cylinder 2 is prevented from being expanded.
