The device has a housing (10) formed with a sensor opening (16), which is formed by exciter radiations produced by a laser (26) contained in a housing for emission and entrance for an excited luminescence radiation coming from an upper surface (30) to be examined. The housing also has a device for controlling a light-proof contact between the edge of the sensor opening and the upper surface, and a safety switching (60), which enables switching of the laser, if a light-proof contact stays between the edge of the sensor opening and upper surface.
