The instrument has a compass, and a distance measuring equipment that comprises an inclined scale bar, a lens, and a marking instrument which is a colored pencil. The compass is adjusted based on information of an avalanche report on a situation. The scale bar measures horizontal distance of two contours standing in a certain geometrical arrangement in a target direction (3) of the compass.
