The head (1) has a base plate (2) forming a combustion chamber cover for a cylinder. A wall (3) for a gas exchange inlet opens out into the combustion chamber, and another wall (4) for a gas exchange exhaust port opens out into the combustion chamber. A third wall (5) is provided for a coolant channel. The walls are formed such that a reinforcement (6) corresponding to a cylinder wall (9) of the cylinder is formed on a side of the base plate turning away the combustion chamber, through the walls in a contact area of the head on the cylinder wall.
