PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stop circulation movement of a conveyor chain and a footstep and to gently stop the movement when abnormality generates in the circulation movement state of the conveyor chain. SOLUTION: The auxiliary brake device for the passenger conveyor is provided with a plate-like rotation body 15 connected to a sprocket 5a laid with the conveyor chain, rotated with the sprocket 5a and having a plurality of engagement parts 19 around a rotation center; an engagement body 25 movable to an engagement position where it is engaged with the engagement part 19 and a retreating position where the engagement is avoided; a detection means for detecting the abnormality in the circulation movement state of the conveyor chain; and a movement means 27 for moving the engagement body 25 from the retreating position to the engagement position based on the detection result of the detection means. The rotation body 15 and the sprocket 5a are connected together by inserting a fixing member 22 for fastening/fixing the rotation body 15 and the sprocket 5a to a circular arc oblong hole 20 formed around the rotation center on at least one of the rotation body 15 and the sprocket 5a.
