PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To widely take a jam margin while preventing reduction of slip-through margin and increase of conveying resistance of sheet in order to enhance productivity (throughput) by narrowing the interval of the conveyed sheets. SOLUTION: In the sheet conveying device having a sheet detection means 30 for detecting the sheet conveyed on a sheet conveying passage, the sheet detection means 30 has a sheet abutment part 31d abutted with the sheet S on the sheet conveying passage; a rotatable sensor flag 31 having a shaft 31c for rotating the sheet abutment part 31d; a photo-sensor 32 for detecting action of the sensor flag 31.
