PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device capable of firmly coupling housings with each other without damaging ends of the housings, and a fitting method between the housings of the steering device. SOLUTION: A rack housing 7 and a gear housing 10 are assembled by the shrinkage fitting in which an end 10a of the gear housing 10 is heated and expanded. A space S in the radial direction between the housings 7, 10 during the heating and expansion is preferably in a range of 0.10-0.22 mm. Further, a fitting margin between the housings 7, 10 after the cooling is preferably in a range of 0.08-0.20 mm. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
