A method for transmitting contents in a tree structured server topology is provided to transmit a transfer block, which is loaded in an edge server to be transferred to a first STB(Set-Top Box), to a second STB, load the transfer block previously transferred to the first STB from a central/local server, and transmit the loaded transfer block to the second STB, thereby reducing a transfer time/delay and using network resources efficiently. A first STB requests first contents to the connected edge server. The edge server transmits the first contents received from the central server through the local server to the first STB. The second STB requests the second contents to the connected STB. The edge server connected to the second STB determines whether the contents transmitted to the first STB is the contents requested from the second STB. The edge server connecting to the first and second STB stores a second transfer block transmitted to the first STB when the first contents are identical with the second contents. The edge server receives the first transfer block previously transmitted to the first STB from the central server. The edge server transmits the stored first and second transfer block to the second STB.
