ELECTRODES AND EQUIPMENT FOR ELECTROCHEMICAL CONTROL OF METABOLISM AND ALCOHOL PRODUCTION OF YEAST

A reactor for producing alcohol is provided to improve the alcohol productivity to minimum 30% and maximum more than 50% by electrochemically controlling the culturing condition without the genetic improvement of yeast, addition of nutrient materials capable of promoting the growth of the yeast, optimization of other physicochemical culturing condition and the structure change of a culture medium. A reactor for producing alcohol comprises an electrode mounted at the inside of the reactor and made from C, Pt, Au, Ti, Ir, Zr or Ni, a power supplying device connected to the electrode, and a pulse generator connected to the power supplying device. A method for producing alcohol comprises a step of inoculating yeast such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae or bacteria such as Zymomonas mobilis into the reactor and then culturing it.
