BELT TYPE CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of a belt type continuously variable transmission mounted on a transportation vehicle wherein engine brakes do not work at all because transmission of power from an engine to the transmission is completely shut off when the vehicle is decelerated and the engine becomes an idling condition and foot brakes must be frequently applied when going down a long downward slope in the idling condition.

SOLUTION: This belt type continuously variable transmission 3 provided with a power clutch mechanism 50 for shutting off a power transmission path 45 when output rotational speed of the engine 2 is reduced below predetermined limit speed in the power transmission path 45 for transmitting power of the engine 2 to an input member 9 of the transmission 10 is provided with a braking force transmission path 46 for adding braking force from the engine 2 to the input member 9 when the power transmission path 45 is shut off. The braking force transmission path 46 is formed by another system being different from the power transmission path 45.
