PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for driving a liquid crystal display device wherein a response speed of liquid crystal to halftone can be increased even without using a memory, thereby preventing degradation in picture quality. SOLUTION: The apparatus for driving the liquid crystal display device comprises: an image display unit 2 that includes liquid crystal cells formed in areas defined by a plurality of gate lines and a plurality of data lines; a gate driver 4 that sequentially supplies a scan pulse to the gate lines; a data driver 6 that modulates input data by input data, selectively converts modulated data and the input data to analog video signals and supplies them to the data lines; and a timing controller 8 that arranges source data from the external, supplies them to the data driver 6, and controls the data driver 6 and the gate driver 4.
