<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for determining a proper metric and determining a metric adaptable to reduction in peak power in single carrier modulation for applying QAM modulation to a single carrier. <P>SOLUTION: The single carrier modulation has a form of a metric value provided to symbols of a QAM constellation to suppress the peak power and a form of a transition metric applicable to transition between the symbols obtained by QAM mapping. The metric value is provided to the symbols of the QAM constellation so as to suppress occurrence of symbols increasing the peak power, a dispersion in an instantaneous power is fixed as the metric on the basis of a relationship between the peak power and the dispersion in the instantaneous power, and encoding is executed to minimize the transition metric to reduce the peak power. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
