<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To design an inspection method enabling efficient, reliable inspection of a braking device of an elevator. <P>SOLUTION: The braking device 11 for the elevator performs braking and holding of an elevator car 2. The braking device 11 for the elevator is constructed by a plurality of braking units 12 engaged with a braking track 6 when required. For this purpose, the braking unit 12 presses at least one braking plate 14 to the braking track 6 to generate braking force. According to the invention, in order to inspect the braking device 11, an effective coefficientμe of friction of the braking unit generated is made clear when the braking plate 14 is pressed to the braking track 6.
