PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide glass having a coefficient of thermal expansion of 40-50×10<SP>-7</SP>/°C, and having favorable viscosity characteristics to stably manufacture a thin and large glass substrate, and suitable for a TFT-LCD, especially for an a-Si (amorphous silicon) TFT-LCD. SOLUTION: This alkali-free glass contains as glass composition 45-65% SiO<SB>2</SB>, 12-17% Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 7.5-15% B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 0-3% MgO, 5.5-15% CaO, 0-5% SrO, 5-15% BaO, 0-5% ZnO, 15-23% MgO+CaO+SrO+BaO+ZnO, 0-5% ZrO<SB>2</SB>, 0-5% TiO<SB>2</SB>, and 0-5% P<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>in mass%, substantially contains no alkali metal oxide, has a value of (CaO+BaO-MgO)/SiO<SB>2</SB>of 0.25-0.4 in mass fraction, and has an average coefficient of thermal expansion in the temperature range of 30-380°C of 40-50×10<SP>-7</SP>/°C.
