PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that contrast at a low temperature is dropped due to deterioration of frequency characteristics of a liquid crystal dielectric constant at a low temperature in a liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: This is an active matrix-type liquid crystal display device which conducts a precharge operation which writes a precharge signal Psig with a precharge switch 19 before the device writes display signals to respective data lines 12-1 to 12-6 in a display area 14 with a data driver 17. In this case, a gradation level at the time of non-application of voltage to liquid crystal, for example, a common voltage VCOM, is used as the precharge signal Psig to increase contrast at a low temperature.
