PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct a white balance by a simple operation and allow easy resuming of the observation of a specimen. SOLUTION: A microscope apparatus 100 includes: an observing optical system 15 for forming an observation image of a specimen 1 placed on a stage 2; an imaging element 9 for obtaining an observation picture by imaging the observation image; an image processing part 10b for correcting the white balance of the observation picture; and a white balance reference plate freely removaly disposed on the observation optical axis 15a of the observing optical system 15 while the placed position of the specimen 1 on the stage 2 is kept.
