PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device, capable of preventing an image display panel from being broken when a shock is applied from the outside to a principal surface of the display device, using the image display panel which has a front surface glass substrate and a back surface glass substrate, and has the inside of the image display panel retained in vacuum. SOLUTION: The image display device comprises a supporter 4 which supports the back surface substrate 2 of the image display panel; and a composition disposed on a joint part of the back surface substrate 2 of the image display panel and adsorbs shocks from the outside. Jointing of the backside of the back surface substrate 2 to a metal substrate 4 as the supporter is performed by a double-coated adhesive tape 5, wherein a notch part 431 is disposed on the jointing part to form a tongue piece part 43. The tongue piece part 43 has spring action and protects the display device with respect to the shock from the principal surface direction to prevent the display panel from breaking.
