PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display element whose white color tone variation at the time of repetitive driving is reduced in the display element of an ED (electrodeposition) system which can be driven with a simple member constitution at a low voltage and has high display contrast and white display reflectance. SOLUTION: In the display element wherein an electrolyte containing silver or a silver compound is held between facing electrodes and driving operation of the facing electrodes is performed so that dissolution and deposition of silver are generated, the electrolyte contains a compound represented by a general formula (A).
