The invention relates to a method for cooling and converting hot exhaust gases, especially combustion gases, or reaction gases from gasification or pyrolysis reactions of reductive high temperature reactors for metallurgy, inorganic technology and environment technology. According to said method, in a first step, oxygen and water or water vapour are used to cool to temperatures of between 605°C and 1050°C with simultaneous oxidation of CO and H2 and reduced parts of Zn, Cd, Cu and/or Hg, and optionally CuCl2, CuSo4, ZnCl2 are pyrohydrolytically split, following which a cooling process is carried out in a second step, to a temperature above the dew point of water. |
