A honeycomb structure less likely to have damage such as chipping on its end when it treats exhaust gases while being fixed in a metal container. The honeycomb structure (100) has a honeycomb structure part (1) having porous partition walls defining and forming cells serving as fluid flow passages and penetrating in the axial direction, and also has a peripheral coat part (2) disposed on the outer periphery (1b) of the honeycomb structure part (1). On at least one axial end (3) of the honeycomb structure, an end face (2a) of the peripheral coat part (2) is positioned on the axially inner inside of an end face (1a) of the honeycomb structure part (1).
