The device has a contact piece and a movable contact bridge. A monitoring unit (5) monitors a switching-off process of the main contact (1). A release mechanics (4) is provided for the interruption of a flow path (L1 to L3) belonging to a welded main contact as well as the device displays the welded main contact. The device is operated by release mechanics which is activated by monitoring unit with notification of welded main contact by a control unit (6).
