A media gateway (34.2) comprises a line interface (54) comprising at leas t one input port, which is connectable to a time division multiplex (TDM) co mmunications carrier. The at least one input port being configured to receiv e input data in at least one of a) clear channel data in a data carrier type and b) TDM framed in a primary rate carrier. The gateway comprises an extra ctor (66) for extracting the clear channel data and a formatter (64) for for matting the framed data. The gateway further comprises an interface (67) for making the extracted data and/or formatted data available as packet data ne twork (PDN) data at a PDN output port of the gateway.
