An optical pick-up protection apparatus of a portable optical disk recording/reproducing apparatus is provided to prevent an objective lens in an optical pick-up from being polluted and protect a user from laser beam by closing an upper side of the optical pick-up immediately when the optical pick-up is exposed to the outside. An optical pick-up protection apparatus of a portable optical disk recording/reproducing apparatus is interlocked to the state of a disk or a disk cover to protect the optical pick-up by closing an upper side of the optical pick-up when the optical pick-up is exposed directly to the outside. The optical pick-up protection apparatus comprises an exposure detection unit, a pick-up protection cover(142), and a protection cover driving unit(144). The exposure detection unit sends a signal by detecting exposure of the optical pick-up depending on the disk loading and/or opening and closing of the disk cover. The pick-up protection cover protrudes with respect to the optical pick-up from an upper side of the optical pick-up, and selectively closes the upper side to protect the optical pick-up. The protection cover driving unit is selectively operated by the signal from the exposure detection unit, and moves the pick-up protection cover to protrude.
