An apparatus and a method for displaying defects of an optical disk are provided to allow a user to easily recognize defects of the optical disk by extracting defects of the optical disk from its inner periphery to outer periphery and displaying the defects. An apparatus for displaying defects of an optical disk(10) comprises a pick-up part(14), a defect extraction part(20), an OSD(On Screen Display) generation part(48), and a control part(18). The pick-up part picks up a signal recorded on the optical disk. The defect extraction part extracts an error correction error generated while correcting an error of the signal, as a defect of the optical disk. The OSD generation part compares a defect value extracted from an inner periphery to an outer periphery of the optical disk with a predetermined reference value, and outputs it through a generated OSD screen. The control part controls generation of the OSD screen and output of the compared result when the defect value of the optical disk is larger than the reference value.
