PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for enabling a client to acquire data of retrieval results regardless of a protocol used in a data library. SOLUTION: This information processing system providing a client device with data stored in a data storage device has a retrieval device and a relay device. The retrieval device receives retrieval request information including queries from the client device, retrieves data suitable for the queries, and transmits access information including specific information specifying retrieved data, to the client device. The relay device receives the access information from the client device, acquires data included in the access information and specified by the specific information, from the data storage device, and transmits the data to the client device, wherein the relay device communicates with the client device based on a protocol specified by the client device, and carries out communication with the data storage device based on a protocol used by the data storage device.
