<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that, in the manufacturing method of a multi-layer ceramic substrate by a so-called non-contracting process, there have been performed a process for giving to at least a principal surface of a green ceramic body the confining layers which are not sintered substantially at the sintering temperature of the green ceramic body, a process for burning thereafter the green ceramic body having these confining layers, and a process for removing next the confining layers; the removals of the confining layers have become difficult when intending to increase the confining forces caused by the confining layers, and the confining forces have become small when intending to facilitate the removals of the confining layers. <P>SOLUTION: The confining layers are constituted out of first confining layers 5, 6 and second confining layers 7, 8 having the confining forces smaller than the ones of the first confining layers 5, 6, to provide respectively the second confining layers 7, 8 on both the surfaces of a green ceramic body 9, and to provide respectively the first confining layers 5, 6 on the respective surfaces of the second confining layers 7, 8.
