PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect and record the top-bottom direction of a picked-up image. SOLUTION: Face detection information contains the position of the face on an image, the size of the face, reliability indicating certainty that a detection result is the face, and a rotating angle of the image at a time when the face is detected. The face detection information is included in meta-information and recorded in a management information recording area of a recording medium in accordance with a still image file or a moving image file. When reproducing the still image file or the moving image file, the rotating angle of the image is acquired from the meta-information, and the image is rotated and displayed in accordance with the rotating angle.
