A brightness improving sheet and a backlight unit including the same are provided to improve the brightness and enlarge the viewing angle by performing both concentration and diffusion of incident light using a diffusion unit formed of diffusion particles between prisms. A prism-shaped unit(310) includes a plurality of prisms arranged in parallel to each other on a base film(300). A diffusion unit(320) includes at least one diffusion particle(324) and a resin(322) and is formed between the prisms of the prism-shaped unit. The diffusion particle is a bead formed of polystyrene. The resin is an UV curable resin. A refractive index(n2) of the diffusion particle is substantially equal to a refractive index(n3) of the resin(n2 n3). A refractive index(n1) of the prism is larger than a refractive index(n3) of the resin(n1>n3). |
