<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material management system for preventing the theft of the material in a construction site or the like. <P>SOLUTION: This material detecting system comprises a monitoring camera 21 for monitoring a postern gate 31; a pole 23 for a tag reader disposed near the postern gate 31, having a tag reader 22 for reading an IC tag attached to the material; a specifying means for specifying the material from the IC tag detected by the tag reader 22; and a determining means for determining whether the material specified by the specifying means is allowed to be brought out.
