<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily determine whether a component having leads comprising a plurality of lines such as paired lines can be supported by automatic assembly or the like without being affected by environments. <P>SOLUTION: A lead-position detecting device has an X-direction position sensor 11 including dial gages 21 and 22, and keeps an object W having the lead 33 in a determined orientation by a tool 23. Further, the sensor brings probes 21a and 22a close to the lead 33 extending from the kept object W from both directions in the X-direction, and outputs coordinates of the probes 21a and 22a when they come into contact with the lead 33.
