PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an analyzer and an analysis method which enable the analyzation of a specimen without wasting the specimen and a reagent. SOLUTION: In the analyzer and the analysis method, a second reagent is dispensed into a first reaction liquid obtained by allowing a first reagent to react with a specimen for reaction and the optical characteristics of the second reacted reaction liquid are measured to analyze the specimen. The analyzer comprises: a liquid level detection circuit 14 for detecting the liquid level position of the second reagent; and a control section 15 for updating the predicted number of dispensation times of the second reagent calculated from the liquid level position detected by the liquid level detection circuit at each dispensation of the second reagent, and stops dispensing the first reagent when the remaining number of times obtained by subtracting the number of preceding dispensation times of the first reagent being dispensed in advance from the updated number of prediction dispensation times reaches a prescribed number of times.
