An apparatus and a method for recording a subtitle in a DVD(Digital Versatile Disk) record/reproducing system are provided to record a subtitle data desired by a user together with an image without using an image editing device. An apparatus for recording a subtitle in a DVD(Digital Versatile Disk) record/reproducing system comprises a subtitle storage part(120), an image processing part(116), an image selection part(122), and a microprocessor(112). The subtitle storage part stores a variety of text subtitle data. The image processing part performs processing of images reproduced by an external input device or a DVD disk, and images with subtitle data inserted. The image selection part selectively outputs the original image reproduced by the external input device or DVD disk, and the image with subtitle data included. The microprocessor controls the image processing part to include a selected subtitle data to a corresponding image when a subtitle recording request occur during recording of the DVD system, and controls the image selection part to control recording of an image signal with the subtitle included.
