The invention relates to a process for manufacturing of an elongated metal beam (1) used as a vehicle body component, wherein the finished metal beam (1) has a width and/or height varying in its lengthwise direction In this process in the course of a relative movement of a counter die (3) on the one hand and a profiling machine (7) with profiling means (7b) on the other hand a semi-shaped portion (2d) of a semi-finished metal beam (2) is profiled towards a contoured buttress face (6) of the counter die (3) which extends in the lengthwise direction of the metal beam (2). The contour of the buttress face (6) conforms to the shape of the finished metal beam. Apart from this general process a manufacturing stand allowing to work this process is disclosed as well.
