A partial message receiving method and a portable terminal thereof are provided to receive parts of mass mails, files and multimedia contents, thereby previously preventing entire reception of an unnecessary message, reducing communication costs and receiving time, and improving efficiency of storage capacity of the portable terminal. A partial message receiving method comprises the following steps of: requesting a predetermined server to transmit a part of a message corresponding to a pre-designated one-reception amount during a message reception request(216); and receiving and storing the partial message transmitted from the server according to the request(218). The method further comprises steps of: displaying a menu screen capable of controlling the one-reception amount during the message reception request(222); and selecting and setting the one-reception amount through the menu screen(224).
